Street projects, expansion of fiber network, and health care clinic to be discussed by Decatur City Council

The next meeting of the Decatur City Council will be on Tuesday, July 6 at 5:30 PM.  The agenda consists of 8 items.  Below are some highlights.

Street Restoration Projects – The city council will likely accept the bid of Dunn Company to perform mill and overlay work along two locations on N. and S. Jasper St., as well as overlay work on a portion of Airport Rd.  This project will primarily be funded by State Motor Fuel Tax.  In addition, the city will be receiving $5,016,739.32 in REBUILD ILLINOIS Capital Plan funding over a three-year period.  The city council will likely approve the appropriation of Rebuild Illinois funds for five projects: Center Street, Meadowlark, and Grove Rd. Bridge replacements, Garfield over 22nd St. Bridge improvement, and Country Club Rd. and Airport Rd. pavement replacement.

Expansion of City of Decatur Fiber Network – The city council will likely approve an agreement for a private company, Sunna Fiber, to use two strands of fiber from the city’s existing fiber network.  Sunna Fiber is locally- and women-owned and wants to provide fast, high quality fiber optic internet service throughout Decatur.

Employee Health Care Clinic – It is expected that the city council will pass a resolution authorizing the use of space in the upper level of the Decatur Public Library for the building of an employee health care clinic.  The clinic will be operated by the company Activate.
