Should food trucks be allowed in downtown Decatur?

Currently, food trucks are not allowed in downtown Decatur except for special events.  At its last meeting, the city council discussed allowing food trucks to be in downtown regularly, and in a similar manner as other parts of the city.

Those opposed to having food trucks in downtown may argue that food trucks have lower overhead costs and therefore might take business away from brick-and-mortar establishments that already face greater financial challenges than food trucks.

Those in favor of having food trucks in downtown may argue that the more food options available for Decatur residents, the better the quality of life for the citizens and the more customers for surrounding businesses.  Increased competition can lead to lower prices and higher quality products and services.

What do you think?  Should food trucks be allowed in downtown Decatur and why?
